The Scene
The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum boasts one of the largest design collections in the world. Founded in 1897 by Sarah, Amy and Eleanor Hewitt and transferred to the care of the Smithsonian Institution in 1968, the museum has resided in its present home--the exquisite former Andrew Carnegie mansion--since 1976.
The Collection
On a typical visit to the museum, you might see a show of handcrafted lace next to an exhibit of mass-produced wallpaper patterns--just some of the items in the museum's vast collection of drawings, prints, decorative arts, textiles and wall coverings. Apart from several major annual exhibitions, there is also an extensive schedule of educational programs, workshops, walking tours and music concerts in the beautiful Arthur Ross Terrace and Garden.

How can you hate their collection? You basically can't, they have the best triennal and had one of the better hotel/nomad show I've seen in the US [to say the least]. Had a great time, the Michelangelo Show earlier was great too.
Pros: Ambience, Shows, Design Shows
Cons: Expensive to get in
