Editorial Review for Marcus Garvey Park – by Susan Chenelle
In Short
Known as Mount Morris Park during the first 130 years of its history, it was renamed in honor of black nationalist leader Marcus Garvey in 1973. In the 1930s, Robert Moses and the Federal Works Progress Association installed playgrounds, terraces and stairs, which remain to the present day. A pool, a recreation center and an amphitheater for outdoor concerts were added in the 1960s.
