Editorial Review for 230 Fifth – by Katie Heffernan
In Short
Gilded elevators open onto a penthouse cocktail den practically stretching to the horizon. The mirror- and window-lined room looks like an '80s interpretation of the art deco era, with low-slung suede sofas in deep sunset hues and some of owner-art collector Steven Greenberg's 1940s modernist furnishings. A chrome staircase leads to a sprawling rooftop like you've never seen before: Almost 360 unobstructed degrees--including a dead-on of the Empire State--alongside breezy palm trees.

First of all...the view is amazing, I find it breathtaking. If you love architecture and this city, you'll love this place...and I love all the green plants all over. I always have a great time here because it's outside and I think it's fairly spaceous. The drinks are ridiculously priced though. I never spend much time downstairs, but it's pretty dark and dreary.
Pros: View, afterwork crowd
Cons: drinks

I had a going away party for a friend which required bottle service for 17 people, with guaranteed rooftop seating. Only 12 people were able to get pass the less than "smart" bouncer. For the others, he claimed no reservation under my name (minding you, 12 got in using the same name). Their hiring/training criteria is below average or desperate; especially when it comes to more revenue from the customers. If the bouncer would have let the other 5 in (who had proper identification and attire) another bottle, with the previous bottles, would have been purchased. My conclusion is ignorant staffing, including management. I wouldn't confuse rudeness with ignorance. Poor business decisions come 1st at 230 5th, not the paying customers
Pros: View
Cons: Decisions made by staff
