Editorial Review for BLT Market – by Justin Hartung
The Scene
If BLT Market were to run a personal ad, it might go something like this: "Wanted by big-name restaurateur: Diners from New Hampshire or those who merely wished they lived there. Can offer quaint farmhouse experience--dried flowers, spider-shaped iron chandeliers and lamps made from cheese tray covers--without any of the grit or manual labor a real farmhouse requires!"
The Food
The menu reads like Greenmarket porn, with in-season veggies listed down the side. Seafood dishes benefit most from the fresh produce: Light pink hamachi is dressed with avocado and cilantro puree for a bracingly fresh appetizer, while squash adds a sweet, homey accent to supple black cod. Torondel's French background plays too heavy in some dishes: Rich Hudson Valley duck goes overboard with foie gras, and roasted lamb loin lies down with too much salt. The lack of subtlety pays off with desserts, however, especially a divinely decadent coconut rum cake.
Hits: For all its calculated rusticism, the room exudes warmth, especially for a midtown restaurant.
Misses: Many dishes could use a lighter touch, which would allow the vaunted Greenmarket ingredients to shine more.

Insider Tips
What to DrinkThe wine list is pricey, with the cheapest bottles coming in the low $40s. Some of the more affordable are the New York wines, including a hearty Milbrook Pinot ($45).
Outdoor DiningSidewalk tables provide summer-friendly seating, but be warned: The nearby horse traffic might make for an odiferous meal.
Lunch SpotA $16 Black Angus burger and veal and ricotta meatballs are the kinds of dishes you're likely to find on the lunch menu.

Took my Father, Boyfriend and Mother there for her birthday brunch (ran into Richard Lewis on our way in). Had to wait 20min past our reservation time to be seated at one of the six empty tables. We were then greeted by a less than nice waitress who proceeded to explain that the $35 Brunch Menu includes one item on the Menu except for the bottom of the menu which tags on an extra $10. We sort of knew that going in but thought there would be more to it such as some bread for the table. Nothing came. We had to wait another 15 min for our drinks. When the food came it was okay. Nothing special. I have had much nicer brunches on the Upper West Side and for less. The best part was that I paid with my Debit card and gave a tip in cash so that the waitress will not get taxed. When I checked my checking account this morning, I had an extra $40+ billed to my account. When I called the Ritz Carlton accounting department to report it, I had to leave a voicemail message. I'm still waiting for a reply.
Pros: Ambience, people watching
Cons: Cost and service

Mesdames and Messieurs We are talking about some basic service skills here. Our food showed-up noticably late. No recognition by the maître d'hôtel and Server At all. French Fries served in this French restaurant was extra soggy and service showed poor presentation . Simpy BLT brand does not fit in Ritz Carlton Crowd. So Long Fair Well
